Playground Mulch

In addition to our standard premium mulch, Almstead manufactures playground mulch. We work hard to ensure that this mulch makes an excellent play surface and adheres to the high safety standards.

 

Installing and Maintaining Almstead’s Playground Mulch

Initial Installation:

Check the specifications of your playground equipment to see what depth of mulch (engineered wood fiber) the manufacturer recommends.

1. After the equipment is installed, make sure the site is clean of debris, rocks, trash, sticks and any other potential hazard to children playing there.
   
2. Install landscape fabric in the entire playground area (you can weight it with sandbags while you install the mulch – remove them as you finish distributing the mulch).
   

Maintenance:

1. Regular inspection and maintenance is extremely important to maintain the safety of your play area.  Areas of high traffic (under swings, slide exits, playground entrances) will experience more displacement and compaction of mulch. Rake the surface and add additional mulch as necessary.
   
2. Over time, mulch can become compacted or ground into powder by use. Remove these sections of mulch and replace with fresh Almstead Playground Mulch.
